A Sincere Apology and Realization.

My Blogging Mistake

Though I thought I was being rather witty in my “Blogging Mistake” post, I seem to have offended someone who I have followed in their blogging career for quite some time (since they started, to my knowledge, and watched them progress).

Though my mood may have been been a little off during that day, I seem to have targeted my first real negative e-mail/comment. Not just a link-bait in my opinion (like in the case of DayJobNuker), but something which kind of got to me.

I’m Giddy.. but it doesn’t feel like a happy giddy.

Not sure whether I should celebrate or rethink my strategy a bit. On a regular basis, I get about 5-15 e-mails per day from Thinkblogger, each asking me certain questions and trying to ask for tips in certain areas of blogging or being a webmaster. It really thrills me to read your e-mails by the way and please keep them coming :).

Though I have gained a small readership, it looks like I may have went a little too far with that post. However, the overall theme behind the post itself was to basically rise above and make a name for yourself, so you do NOT get flooded by the 130,000+ new blogs created every day (or at least that is recorded by technorati).

What you should know.

For that post, or any post really, I do not make much money, if at all. That is not what this blog is about. I am a SEO/Marketing/Tip blog, not a ‘make money’ blog, though I do plan to touch upon some of those aspects in the future, I do not intend to make money from it.

I do not ask for people to sign up under me, even though I think I can get away with it, due to my awesome whit and charm ;). I love to blog. I love to write. I do not do it for the money like most bloggers do (especially when they first try to get into blogging - the current idea behind it is rather depressing), I blog because I just… love blogging. :) There is no other way to explain it.

The “Hosting” sign up comment.

That was a little different, I have never tried to pitch something in my posts. I offered to give people money to sign up under my affiliate program for a few of the more well trusted hosting companies.

It worked, I managed to find 3 people who were interested. You know what though? I didn’t receive a single penny from it. Well, I did.. >_> .. but I gave 100% of it to the 3 people that contacted me through the “Contact Us” section on Thinkblogger.

I personally just wanted to give something back to people who wanted to give some serious thought into switching to a .com domain but didn’t know if they wanted to shell out all that money on hosting.

Just so you know:

I am not trying to eliminate the little guy at all; infact, all my efforts and posts about blogging try to help out the little guy. All the tips I give on how to gain RSS submissions or how to gain that extra boost of traffic is for you and your benefit. Not for mine. I AM an underdog in this one myself ;). I do not consider myself a big fish, nor would I ever want to.

If I start poisoning my blog with more sponsored review posts than actual content or my witty sense of humor, THEN and only then should you think that I am becoming the common power-hungry ‘big fish’. Personally, I do not wish for that to ever happen. I turned down 6 posts from Payperpost because they didn’t suit this blog at all and I thought it would lower the standard.

So again, I apologies for any discomfort I caused any of the entrecard droppers who saw that post on that day, or any of my daily readers who got a little weirded out. If you didn’t get offended, then no worries. Just ignore this post. For those that did, I apologize.

Hah! Though you did sound a bit meaner than usual, I didn’t mind. You did have some great tips ;).

From a marketing point of view, I definetely agree about the feedburner reader number. I took that off mine and I got more subscriptions. People like to see high numbers.

ThinkBlogger(11 March 2008 at 6:18 pm)2

@ Julie: Yeah, really. Personally, I do not like the idea of that. I do not consider myself an over-the-top amazing blogger, but I think of myself more genuine than some of the commercial-bloggers who are only in it for the money.

Like, I know of a few ways I could easily get more money back from a few simple contests but I’d rather not. (atleast not yet - hehe).

hmm… on a side note, I cannot WAIT for the next Wordpress to come out. I can finally redo my theme and get rid of the annoying comment parting. I picked a bad template to mod/hack up to pieces. The only thing I couldn’t work on was the comment boxes, but thats because the theme itself modded it almost completely away from the original style of comment boxes. hmm.

Woah, dont get too harsh on yourself man! You are an awesome blogger and you give amazing tips! Those tips were rock solid, even though you seemed like you were in a bad mood.

ThinkBlogger(11 March 2008 at 6:36 pm)5

@D: hah, thanks. though I shouldn’t have been so harsh in the post, either. I e-mailed him again and I think everything is fine now. Time to keep moving forward I guess ;)

.. @_@ .. I just realized, we had a lot of comments over the past hour. You guys are just awesome!

Jessica(11 March 2008 at 6:52 pm)7

I found your blog through EC! The posts look awesome. Did you design your banner?!? How much did you have to pay?

Ava(12 March 2008 at 10:54 am)8

Very honorable post. You gotta watch out for those spur of the moment, on the defensive, all of a sudden offended bloggers out there! *wink*

Sometimes if they’d just put away that soft spot for a minute and step back and take a look at the big picture, they would see that a lot of tips are for the greater good rather than to put down the little guy.

ThinkBlogger(12 March 2008 at 2:42 pm)9

@ Jessica: I designed it myself, so I paid … 0. >_> lol.

@ Ava: I still apologize :P I was rash, hah. It did get this blog a bit of buzz though. I added an extra 7 readers for that day, lol.

Well then…success!
