Make Money Blogging 101

Make Money BloggingSome of you blog so they can blog. (like myself - I get a thrill from blogging). Others, get into blogging because they think they can get tons of money.

Though I cannot necessarily agree with this frame of mind, it is very possible to make money while blogging, even when just starting out.

However, you need to keep in mind that the more readers and visibility you have (as well as the niche you write about), the more you could potentially make. That aside, here are some neat ways.

Some Basic Ways:

  • Google Adsense - Yep, who would have thought. One of the most well known advertising companies actually work well with blogs. (Well, not as well as with other types of sites, but still enough, depending on your niche and target audience). I might try this one again in the future for an experiment now that the new layout is in and kickin’ ;).
  • Advertising Space - This is a big one. Have a PR5 blog with thousands of unique visitors a day (over-exaguration)? Then sell some advertising space on your sidebar or get a square box set up for people to advertise on. Look over at people like John Cow, who is selling a 125×125 box for $125/month, or others who don’t quite make as much ;) I am selling it for only $15/month, but I have 4 boxes. That $60.
  • Affiliate Products - Quite the dreaded one, but it works. If you have an internet marketing niche, try to get some products related to it. Have a “Make Money Blog”? Why not get people to sign up under your web hosts and get your ebooks.
  • Blog Reviews - Have some back links already? then sign up to places like PayPerPost.com or SponsoredReviews.com. They have a pretty big advertiser base which can definitely help you get your foot in the door. However, you can also directly put a “Get Reviewed” Section or Page on your blog and advertise your prices directly.
  • Other Platforms - There are other networks out there that can make you a bit of money like Adtoll or Project Wonderful. If you have a lot of traffic, Adtoll looks pretty promising. Project Wonderful, you get paid daily. (The amount is not as much, but still a pretty decent amount in the end if it adds up and you have a good blog - that is, if your having trouble advertising with other methods)

Is it True?!

Yes, it is true. You “can” make money online, but do not be fooled. You cannot just slap together a blog and expect to make $100’s a month. (well, unless your really lucky). It takes work and dedication, but once you get into your groove, things come naturally. It is not how most bloggers put it, in order to get a quick buck or two.

You need to build a name for yourself, a ‘brand’, and get a lot of traffic as well. However, it is possible, it just takes time. I think patience is one of the things people do not take too well when Blogging, as most bloggers quit before they reach their 3 month mark.

How do I get enough Traffic?

Build those back links, create more posts, submit some more articles, and comment on other blogs! You cannot just ‘wait around’ to get popular, you have to step forward, get your rear and gear, and make it happen for yourself.

Remember, ‘Seize your Blog, Make it your Own(yay for my old slogan)

Be Unique. Be Yourself

UniqueThough I dread the idea of sounding like a motivational speaker, it must be done.

I am sure that some of you, at least some of you, got into blogging thinking that you would have much success with it. I did.

That said, I frantically read the blogs I thought that could benefit me in some way or another.

What I have learned:

You have to be yourself. You can’t just drone on about a topic (even though you may consider yourself an expert) and not put in your own personal flavor to it. Some people do this and good for them. It is just not my style.

Out of all the comments I have received as a blogger, and all the e-mails I have received asking me questions, I often get the “I like your writing style” statements and the “your a pretty cool blogger” remarks. Now, if only I got those “Your cool” statements in real life ;).

I have gained a readership not only with some of my posts (my most memorable post are probably my photoshop tutorials, sadly enough), but also with my sense of writing.

What does it mean?!?

Though I am not saying you shouldn’t follow in people’s footsteps. I am not saying that at all. You should not try to mimic their success by doing the same thing that they are doing though.

Blogging is like a game to me. I often like to talk about things which spark my interest or that I find interesting.

What you should take from this:

Try to find a style that suits you and do not conform to what others think you should have as a good blog. I did that with this current design/layout and although I like it, it is not my style. I am changing it within the next few days and adding my own bit of flare and unique tastes to this blog.

You should have people want to read your posts because their your posts. Create a “brand” if you have to. I might do some flash video posts in the future, if I get my butt in gear and actually play around with my flash program.

Sneak Peek:

By the way, the picture currently in this post is a bit of a sneak peak of what the new layout’s feel will be like. I hope you will enjoy ;)

Back Links for Your Soul

LinkbacksOnce your website is up and running, you are done. No marketing involved, no painstaking work needed. That would be ideal, however that is never the case.

Your site or blog needs visitors to start making a profit. You can either pay hundreds in from PPC/CPM programs such as adwords of adbrite (or whatever else to your liking), or you could work on trying to get your website noticed through search engines and social bookmarking.

You need back links. Lots of quality back links. Not just any back links, but high quality and relevant ones. The more you have, the better (usually). Some techniques are free, while others you have to pay some amount of money to obtain.

  • Article Submission/Marketing: One of the most commonly used solutions. This has been around for a while and it is very useful in getting your name out there and getting you some back links. Though it may not necessarily help out your PR at all, thats not what is the problem here. You need back links, so … go get some.
  • Website Submission: Who would have thought? You should attempt to submit your websites to a lot of web directories that are available online. You can try your hand at one of the more powerful ones like DMOZ or Yahoo, or try with a few less frustrating ones that can be quite beneficial too.
  • Social Bookmarking: This is a no brainer. There are tons of social bookmarking sites for you to choose from and take advantage of. Stumbleupon, Digg, Furl, Del.icio.us, Twitter, Reddit, linkroll.com, spurl.net, among the countless others floating around the internet.
  • Yahoo Answers: Though this works, you have to be a bit careful with it. This is a good method to get some neat traffic. Find questions related to something on your blog or directly related and answer them with a back link to that question (to your site entry)
  • Forum Marketing: Join forums and start discussing topics. Many forums let you use a website link in your signature. Always try to be simple and unique while doing discussions and don’t spam. It takes time to build back links.
  • Comment on Blogs: This has been discussed a bit in the past, too. Comment on blogs related to your niche. Do not spam them or your comment is as good as deleted, anyway.

These are in fact, some quick tips for you to follow. You should use most if not all of these for your blog or site. Some of these are more beneficial than others. All of these, however, are great :)

Rock Solid Ways to get Traffic to your Blog!

Rock Solid Ways to get Traffic to your BlogBlogging has become very powerful in the world of internet surfing and marketing. Blogs are growing at an enormous rate and they can easily promote any idea you may have.

With the right marketing and know-how, you can have people from all over reading your blog and commenting away with their own opinions.

Blogging is a great way to get your site indexed or ranked quickly for certain keywords. I often get indexed an hour or two after I write a post now, because of the consistency that I write and the methods I use. Google “Blogging Mistakes that could hurt you” (a title to one of my posts, im currently #1 - kind of a bad example, I know), and I am on the front page.

What are good ways to gain Traffic?

  • Article Submission: Who would have thought? I have not done too much of this myself for Thinkblogger, though for my other sites it has worked wonders. There is a reason why people keep mentioning this, even in passing: because it works. Keep your articles and informative, but do not try to sell anything. (that is the interest killer)
  • Social Bookmarking: These are great ways to get some nice traffic if done properly. They let you leave imprints with them and you can get your blog indexed pretty quickly. Check out BlogCatalog, Entrecard, MyBlogLog, Twitter, or Spott, if you have a chance.
  • Blog Commenting: You need to get your name out there, why not build up your traffic and visibility by commenting on other blogs. Leave nice comments on people’s blogs. Basically though, build your back links and anchor texts because it will help you rank higher in Google.
  • Ping after Posting: Just in case if your Content Management System does not have this option, go to www.pingomatic.com.
  • Submit to Search Engines: Find a nice list of Search Engines and submit your blog to them.
  • Submit to Blog Directories: I have had a few posts about this (with a huge list, as well). Submit your blog to these directories! Often, they have an option that lets you get a free featured listing just by giving them a back link. (at least that way, you do not need to have their icon on your page to stay listed).
  • Post Often: Consistency will help you bring back some of those more stubborn viewers ;). I have realized that the days I post 2x, I often have an extra burst of repeat visitors the next day (wondering if I will post again sometime that day for the 2nd post).
  • Other Networks: Stumbleupon, Digg, Technorati. These are very important. Stumbleupon traffic is gold in my opinion, I did an experiment and less than 25% of the traffic left on the first page. This is a great ratio.
  • Most Importantly: Be Unique. Become your own Brand. Have some videos or voice-vasts (which I might do in the future if people do not wish to read long posts but would rather sit on their sofa, comfortably, listening to my hypnotic voice, hehe). There is no point in copying someone’s footsteps and try to get success by what they did; it wont work as well once people have done it once.
